CHINESE LANTERNS
44" by 51"
A truly FUN scrap quilt
This project uses the Foldy Stuff Courthouse Steps design
30-7 1/2" Blocks:
5 across, 6 down
The "secret" is to use the same fabric
on each adjoining block as shown.
To figure yardages:
The following is required for one side of a block plus its matching side: 2" wide, 40" long strips--
For odd mumbered rows---1 strip
For even numbered rows---1 1/2 strips
CUTTING:
Cut strips 2" wide and the following lengths:
Odd numbered rows----2 1/2"--4"--5 1/2"--7"
Even numbered rows---4"--5 1/2"--7"--8 1/2"
Cut border 3 1/2" wide.
HINTS:
1. Use a nutral fabric for the center square. It
should appear as a "background"
2. The blocks in the quilt shown are planned so the odd numbered strips are light and the even numbered strips are medium or dark. But a random arrangement is just as nice and even more fun!
3. Don't plan the quilt---just let it "grow" to whatever size you want. But be prepared-- you'll have a hard time putting it away---it's like eating peanuts!!
